BRUCE CAMP 2024 Dates July 25-29th

Welcome to Camp Running with the Bruces or better know as Bruce Camp. We’ve been running professionally for the last decade chasing down Olympic dreams, prs and making friends and memories along the way. Ben is a 62 min half marathoner and 5 time Rock N Roll Marathon winner. Steph holds a 2:27 marathon and 69 min half marathon pr to her name. We balance our lives with 2 boys full of energy and our new baby girl at home to chase. Enough about us, this camp is for you guys. The runners, the fans, the road warriors, the curious, and the believers.

We launched our coaching biz Running with the Bruces 10 years ago and from some subtle hint dropping from our athletes and fans a seed was planted. This year we’re excited to be hosting our 9th Annual Running Camp. We’re inviting you to our home training ground of Flagstaff, AZ so you can live and train like the pros do at our camp. To ensure a personal experience we are limiting the camp to 30 runners.

You’ll be exposed to endless dirt trails among the aspens and pine trees in the cool mountain air. August in Flagstaff is one of the most beautiful times of the year to train. We’ll show you what it truly means to recover and get the most out of your body. You’ll feast on Flagstaff’s finest local cuisine, fuel up post run with coffee and Picky Bars and end a day of training with some high quality mountain food and perhaps an adult beverage or 2:) The camp has no “speed limits” and is open to ALL levels of ability. You’ve run 2:50 in the marathon, great. Run 27 mins for 5k, join us. Never run a race but just got the running bug, fall in love more with us.

Camp Dates are July 25th-29th

Packages range from single room $1750 to $2900 for shared package

THE RUNNING

Let’s get to the exciting part of camp! As you may or may not know Flagstaff is situated at 7000ft elevation. It’s a bit harder to breathe and run here than sea level so it just means we’ll be slowing down your paces a bit and adjusting your effort level. When you arrive Thursday afternoon they’ll be an optional easy run after check in. Friday we’ll take you out to one of Flagstaff’s premier trails hidden among the aspens. That afternoon we will introduce to you drills and strides and show you how to improve your running form. Saturday morning we’ll trek down the mountain to the red rocks of Sedona and have a little fun on the track. Sunday is the runner’s gem, the Long Run. We’ll have varying distances and times but we’ll head out on a dirt service road that takes you through the endless forests of Flagstaff. The last morning we’ll tour through Flagstaff on the famous Urban Trail system for an easy recovery day. Get ready for your senses and legs to be spoiled.

Lodging/Air Travel

The host hotel for 2024 will be:
Embassy Suites
706 S Milton Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86001

There are several options to fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor and Flagstaff Airport. If you fly into Phoenix it is a 2 1/2 drive from Flagstaff so you would either need to rent a car to get up to Flagstaff or look into the Groome Transportation. The Groome transportation is $49 one way/$98 round trip and takes you to downtown amtrak station of Flagstaff, where we will arrange pick up. If you fly straight into Flagstaff we would provide pick up at the Flagstaff airport.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Flagstaff weather and what should I bring?
Typical weather in August ranges from the mid 70s to high 80s during the day and low 40s to 50s overnight. This makes for near perfect running temps. We’d suggest packing a few pairs of shorts, a half tight, a long tight, 3-4 short sleeves, 2 long sleeves, a light running jacket, pair of gloves, hat, sunscreen, socks and running shoes of course!

Is there an age restriction?
We would like the minimum age to be 21 and the max goes up to 100 years old:) If you are under 21 and very interested, we’d be happy to hear from you and see if you need any parental consent.

Is there an ability level or pace limit?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. This camp is for all abilities levels whether you just began running or have been logging miles for decades. We’ll have varying leaders among the group runs so pacing will have a wide range. Don’t worry!

When is check-in and check-out?
Check in will be 4 p.m. Thursday at Buffalo Park and checkout 11 a.m. on Monday. Most people fly in Thursday morning or afternoon but you are welcome to fly in Wednesday, tour Flagstaff and plan to check in with us Thursday afternoon. Camp festivities will end around 9 a.m. on Monday morning.

What if I’m injured and want to attend camp?
If you’re injured, we’ve been there. Even though this is a “running retreat,” if you’re not able to run currently but still want to attend we’d love to have you. We’ll have access to a bike on a trainer, an Elliptigo, and discounted pool sessions if you need to get your cross training in. There will be plenty of activities for you to partake in and learn all the skills we’ll be teaching. It’ll hopefully be a healing retreat for you if you are injured.
