“I believe every experience – positive or negative – shapes us into a better version of ourselves”
Set the tone for the day with Tianna B. Starting with centering the breath we will move toward setting daily intentions. We'll take a moment to journal about what comes up for us as we prepare to do the work of being present with our bodies and each other. The short but energizing morning yoga flow that follows will help prepare our minds and body for the incredible day ahead.
PT and Pelvic Health with Sara Tanza Sponsored by HOKA ONE ONE
At Grit and Growth, Sara is excited to share her skills in physical therapy and entrepreneurship. Above all, she is excited to hear your stories and learn about your dreams to chart a path towards all of them together!
In opening her own practice, Dr. Sara Tanza chose the name “Pelvic Potential” because of her favorite quote by Maggie Knott: “Every human being has untapped, unlimited potential”. This is the lens that Dr. Tanza uses to view every patient she treats, meeting them where they are at while working to achieve their desired lifestyle and performance goals.
Typical appointments with Sara involve hearing about any issues you are having and your goals for treatment. We then will do a thorough evaluation: watch you move, see if there are any areas of weakness or "tightness" or joints that aren't moving as they should, etc. We can then guide you through a self evaluation of your pelvic floor muscles externally and internally: check any scars and mobilize as necessary, check different muscles for pain/tightness/weakness and get your pelvic floor muscles working as effectively as possible. We will then go over an exercise program for you to follow at home.
GET GRITTY WITH STEPH BRUCE
Steph’s passion for launching this Women’s retreat was born from the idea that we as women are often juggling so many things in our lives, often overwhelming us and clouding who we really are. Steph believes when women begin uplifting other women, the possibilities are endless. That is why Steph reached out to her friends Sara, Tianna, and Nicole because they are women who she believes enrich the lives of those they interact with. At the end of the day we are seeking to be fulfilled from within. We believe at the GRIT and GROWTH Retreat you will be fulfilled through connecting with new friends, Yoga Meditation, finding your balance, hiking through nature, nourishing your body with wholesome freshly prepared meals, learning to love your body, challenge your fears, and do so alongside other like minded women.
“KEEP moving Forward”
Nutrition and Fresh Cooked Meals with Chef Fiona
Prepare to be nourished with freshly cooked farm to table meals. We believe nutrition and the approach to how you fuel yourself is the cornerstone for health and wellness. Each meal will be cooked to order and you’ll be exposed to creative and tasty recipes that you can take back home with you and recreate in your own kitchen. Sit back, enjoy a fresh cup of coffee or tea in the morning, and let your senses be awakened with the aroma of a culinary experience.
“I am from Flagstaff, Arizona. I was raised playing in the gardens in my backyard. There I learned where food came from and developed my palate for selecting good-quality vegetables. I have loved good, wholesome food ever since I can remember.
My great grandfather introduced me to cooking at the age of three. He died when I was six and I was given a sign he had on his front door about cooking. I have treasured it and have made it my lifetime goal to cook in honor of him. I planned to make food my mission in life. I experimented with everything in our kitchen, initially the food was "interesting"... but with time, these experiments became beautiful and delicious dishes. My parents were very health conscious, only allowing organic food in the house and did not allow processed food in my diet. They taught me how food affects the body and mind.
I chose to go to Flagstaff High School because of their culinary program. I learned how to cook in an organized, "picture perfect" way. As a senior I won a full-ride scholarship through Careers through Culinary Arts Program (CCAP) to the Art Institute for a bachelor's degree in culinary. (I declined it because they didn't have a cross-country running team). I also competed in a group cooking competition through Arizona Pro-Start in which we won first place in Arizona. Still wanting to further my culinary interest, I took a year off after high school to work in local kitchens to save money to go to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York where I was offered a partial scholarship.
I am also an athlete. I have spent several years running cross country. I am a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and a certified nutritionist through Precision Nutrition. I plan to study sports nutrition and have a strong desire to be a private chef for athletic teams that come from around the world to train in Flagstaff's excellent high altitude environment.
I work with people on a very personal level, helping them eat healthy meals that work with their personal diets, fitness, and lifestyle.”

Weather
Phoenix weather is perhaps the most coveted in December. Lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s. For our Flagstaff retreats refer below:
Flagstaff is one of the most beautiful cities in the country. During the winter months we get beautiful snowfall with sunshine and temps between 5-55 degrees. During the spring is our windy season with flowers blossoming and temps in the low 30s to upper 60s. Heading into summer you’ll find gorgeous cool mornings followed by warm days in the 80s and low 90s. Fall in Flagstaff is perhaps our most coveted season with temperatures ranging from highs in the 60s to lows in the 40s, leaves changing and colorful aspens showing off their beauty. Depending on what season retreat you attend, you’ll want to pack an array of outfits. From shorts and a t-shirt for hiking and exploring, to dresses or jeans for Happy Hour, comfy sweats for morning Yoga, and a winter jacket for the Campfire nights.
